Gianforte-R Wins Montana special election, Assault charges pending, not against the democrats, but against a reporter.
Greg Gianforte won the special election against democrat challenger. The unofficial results are reported by the State of Montana, as of midnight, 51% Gianforte and 44% by the Democrat Rob Quist.
While this is not Georgia specific news, it is worth reporting. Georgia, 6th Congressional District, is facing a run-off election between Karen Handel-R and Jon Ossoff-D.
As evidenced during the special election, and during the run-off, the Democrat party has circled the wagons pouring in millions of dollars into Ossoff’s campaign. The democrats intend both send Ossoff to Congress, and flip this long-held Republican seat. Previous representatives have included- Newt Gingrich who later became speaker of the house and a former presidential candidate, Johnny Isakson, who became and is a Senator from Georgia, and Tom Price, who was recently appointed as Secretary of Health and Human Resources.
Consultants, campaigns, and politicos have been watching the Montana race carefully as this special election and the 6th Congressional race is an early test of President Trump and 2018.
2018, the next mid-term elections in the United States, is often a report card on the citizen’s satisfaction with the job of the president. This will be the first mid-term, or half way point, of Trump’s presidency. These two special elections are an early test.
The pundit and news cycles have already begun speculation on the Georgia’s run-off election on June 20th. The win by Gianforte, indicates that Republicans still have gains to make or hold on to deeming and overall approval of Republican leadership. This win in Montanna will ease the mind of some Republicans, especially the ones who had become weary and nervous over the supposed tightening of the polls in this number.
This should provide to Handel’s campaign some momentum. This conclusion is more significant given the recent news reported on Tuesday that, Gianforte , “attacked a reporter”, a Guardian “journalist”, a second ambush style attack by the same outlet against the candidate.
Gianforte has apologized and criminal charges are pending for the alleged incident. With criminal charges pending and the main-stream media touting the lack of satisfaction by President Trump, it was expected that these charges would change the momentum of Gianforte’s race.
Gianforte could face a $500 monetary fine and up to six months of imprisonment. This is a direct blow to Democrats hoping to rebuke President Trump and be further motivated for wins in 2018
Editor’s Note: NNN is impartial and does not support violence against journalists, citizens, or personal attacks of any sort. It is understandable why Gianforte would have been frustrated and we speculate that he was pushed to these actions, prior to the time of the recording. This is up to a court to determine and NNN maintains that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty. This may or may not have an impact on the final results and swearing in of Congressman-Elect Gianforte. However, we recognize that in spite of this incident that made the national news cycle, Gianforte won the election. This is an indicator of approval by President Trump and overall national support of Republicans.Channel : NetNewsJournalsGeorgia.sm NetNewsCatster: Nicholas Honeycutt
