Pax Americana Redux: A Realist View

The current crisis with Russia and Ukraine created a fierce debate about the future of Pax Americana.

Currently, the USA has a very weak and mentally sick President. Thus, the Pax Americana is in dramatic retreat. The next Republican president must design and promote a robust and assertive Pax Americana. The USA needs to roll back Russia and China and promote global stability. Specifically, the United States needs to strengthen the North Atlantic Treaty Organization-NATO in Europe and support pro-American governments in various European countries. The Sixth fleet needs to safeguard American thalassocracy in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea.

In the Aegean Sea, the Sixth Fleet needs to be the equalizer between Greece and Turkey. The USA needs to deny access to the Russian fleet in that region. Furthermore, American forces must be stationed in Greece and Cyprus to protect American national interests. Moreover, the USA must undermine any efforts to create a European Army. Such a move will be detrimental to NATO. An excellent military action was the new American naval base in Alexandroupoli. In addition, the USA must warn Greece that if it continues to flirt with Russia and France, such behavior gives the image that Greece undermines the American national interests in the region. France is part of NATO. However, its behavior is questionable.

President Macron’s central policy undermines NATO and promotes a pro-French defense policy in Europe. Greece, Turkey, and Cyprus need a new era of American schooling and protectionism. It is time to continue the philosophy of the Truman Doctrine in the region. That philosophy promotes stability and a robust American military presence in the area. The European Union-EU has become an instrument of Anti-Americanism, Anti-Capitalism, and Anti-Western values and ideas. It is time for the USA to dismantle the EU and replace it with a new American-style institution under the USA’s and Great Britain’s Aegis. The American administration can achieve such a policy if it promotes the right democratic forces which want fundamental capitalist ideas to dominate Europe.

The USA must be the catalyst for stability and the crusader against jihadist terrorism in the Middle East. In some cases, the American government can promote democracy and civil rights. However, the Middle East cannot accept democratic values due to cultural cleavages. Iran is a significant threat to regional stability and the American national interest in the Persian Gulf. The mullahs want to destroy Israel and the USA. The Fifth Fleet must control and protect the Persian Gulf for global commerce and deter Iran from becoming nuclear. In Asia, the American government needs to unite all the democracies and create an alliance to roll back China. The Seventh Fleet needs to protect the South China Sea from Chinese aggression. In addition, it needs to safeguard Taiwan from potential Chinese invasion. India will be a good component in this alliance. However, due to cultural perceptions, India continues to flirt with Russia. That is unacceptable for an Indian-American partnership.

The USA must use trade and other means to reinstate American domination and influence in Africa and the Western Hemisphere. American businesses need to invest in various African nation-states. Such a policy can promote stability in the African Continent. A critical move for America is to 2 retake the Panama Canal and stop Chinese aspirations for the Canal. The Canal is an American creation and belongs to the USA. President Carter committed treason by relinquishing the Canal to the Panamanian ownership and jurisdiction. The USA must see itself as the new Roman empire, powerful enough to control the world’s destiny. Only a strong America determined to fight thugs like Putin and chastise countries like Greece and Turkey when they misbehave can keep the peace and safeguard America and global economic prosperity. Prosperity and peace will prevail when American Capitalism and Conservative values and ideas prevail over other countries. The Pax Americana needs to promote a more integrated and interdependent world. The new Pax Americana must encourage a solid Anglo-American alliance globally. The compass for the new American foreign policy needs to be Thucydides and Niccolò Machiavelli.
