
Last night’s debate, absent Trump, was supposed to be a calm, civil discussion of the issues, with perhaps a dose of distaste for Trump’s perpetual rudeness, right? Perhaps. But that’s not how it turned out. Will catalogs the hostility—displayed most persistently by Mike Pence—that characterized most of the evening, and he concludes that 1) none of the candidates is ready for primetime, and 2) the argument that goes something like, “we like Trump, but he’s a jerk” is a bogus argument; most of the candidates last night out-jerked Trump at his best.
